4The starter to a great franchise!Mar 04, 2010
I loved Ace Combat 4-6 but wanted to play what started it all. At first, my expectations weren't really high for a early PS1 game, so I wasn't really disappointed by the outcome of Air Combat. Still, the game was pretty groundbreaking for its time and the fun aspect of the game was the same as the others.

Pros
Aircraft are eye-candy.
Wide array of aircraft.
Arcade-like gameplay with intense moments.
Third-person and first-person view.
Decent amount of missions.


Cons
No analog controls.
Scenery is lifeless.
Shallow storyline.
Almost no replayability.
AI can act derpy at times.

For early PS1, however, it's pretty darn good.

Its really fun at the begining except once you play it its starts to get easier and easier. I love the planes and the graphics are cheap but dont lag to much. I do suggest this game for an old-timer gamer (one that can support cheap graphics).

that was just a beutiful ending and i thought in the cretids that playing the game relly payed of.espeshaly after the ending.you shold get this game ASAP because its a very very fun game and id like to give namco a thumbs up for this wonderful game.i relly want ace combat 2 now! i mean the missions are just amazing and the last mission you get a desire to fight and youll want to play it over and over again!.i just love this game 5/5

3A good game that won't appeal to everyone.Jul 20, 2001
Graphics: 6/10 – Not too flash really, there isn’t much to look at here. The aeroplanes look nice when you’re checking out which one to fly in, but in the air, it’s mostly just a nice shade if blue.

Sound: 6/10 – I can remember the background plane noises, but the shooting sounds could’ve been more bang-crash-WAM!

Value: 5/10 – If you play a lot of games that are based around things in the air or aeroplanes, this isn’t the pick of the litter. It is worth buying for a price under $..., but you might not be interested if you aren’t willing to get fly-wise.

Overall: 6/10 – Definitely not a poor game, it will teach you with its intelligence how to fly a simulator plane, but don’t expect the entertainment level to be through the roof.
