4Less exploration, more actionDec 02, 1999

As a huge fan of Tomb Raider, I was really looking forward to this release. Compared to the first Tomb Raider, Tomb Raider II features better graphics, more action, and a much higher difficulty level. Many players of the original Tomb Raider complained that the pace was a little too slow. In response, Core Design practically turned Tomb Raider II into an action title. A new save system was added whereby you can save your progress at any point in the game. This is a good feature because you'll be saving often, believe me. Of course, doing so breaks up the continuity of the game which lessened my overall enjoyment. The game includes some wonderful environments to explore and tricky puzzles requiring nearly perfect timing to complete. Core definitely intended to make Tomb Raider II a challenge, and they succeeded almost too well. The game has many high points, but it can be very frustrating. If you're a fan of the original, you'll certainly want to pick this up. However, be prepared for an incredible challenge. A decent player should be able to complete the game in 40-50 hours.

5The best in the seriesOct 27, 2000
By Rich Horch
Tomb Raider II is without question my favorite game in the series. Tomb Raider II improves on the first one by adding more action, some different movements and most importantly by adding the ability to save at any time. I loved the levels on TRII and the challenge level of the game. TRI was a little too easy and TRIII was impossible. Tomb Raider II is one of my favorite playstation games ever and I hope that the newest one (Chronicles) goes back to being closer to the formula of part II. I recommend this Tomb Raider over all the others for anyone who wants to try one of the games in the series.

4Better game, but less soul.Aug 22, 2001
By D.L.Simpson
If Tomb Raider is Indiana Jones, then Tomb Raider 2 is James Bond. Alot of TR fans don't like this game, mainly because it has too much shootem'up elements to it than it should. I agree. But that dosn't make it bad. Infact TR2 is the most playable game of all the TR's. It dosn't have those irritating dark scenes too much. Lara actions are better. And the puzzles are better thought out. I'm also a fan of Far Eastern art. So the last levels realy felt good to explore. I'm giving this 4 stars because alot of the levels, although great to play, don't have the original soul of Tomb Raider. I would rather explore an Incan Ruin than Venice, or, Atlantis than an Oil Rig. You get my point. But I still like playing it and I have never tired of it.

5The Rare Case Where A Sequal Stomps an OriginalJun 20, 2002
By Chris W.
From the Great Wall of China to the canals of Venice, Tomb Raider II is the rare case in which a sequel is better than an original. In fact, I find this game to be my favorite of the series. In it the legendary Lara Croft sets out to find the Dagger of Xion. In her quest she navigates the globe, and even takes a couple of trips to strange and magical new worlds.

Tomb Raider II offers significant improvements over the original, and its game play exceeds the other games that follow in the series. The game has drastically overhauled weapons and artificial intelligence. Though the puzzles are not as hard as later versions, they still are quite difficult. Lara has new moves, many new weapons, and more dangerous foes. What more could a Tomb Raider fan - or even the casual gamer - ask for?

I highly recommend this game, whether you are an avid Tomb Raider fan or somebody new to the series. I don't believe you will be disappointed - in fact, you will probably find many hours of action filled entertainment. And if you do enjoy it, I strongly recommend other games in this series.

5Tomb Raider 2= Terrific times 2!Jan 15, 2000

Tomb Raider 2 is terrific! I didn't think that Eidos could make another Tomb Raider that was just as good as the original, but they did! The graphics are far better than the ones in the original, it's more challenging, TONS of enemies(Most of them human this time around, though), better weapons including uzis, automatic pistols, a shotgun, an M16, a harpoon gun, and of course, Lara Croft's trademark pistols, and her training course is WAY cooler than in the first one(Except that the freaky old butler follows you everywhere)(Tip: To get rid of him, run into her kitchen, open the meat freezer, and stand in it until he comes in. Then, just blow by him and slam the door in his face. He doesn't move fast, so don't worry. Or, just lock him in the house, but sometimes he gets out).In her training course, you can go outside this time, and I've heard a rumor that you can get her guns in the training level to shoot her butler, but I've yet to find them. Also, there are more and better rooms to explore in her house. And in the real game, the levels range from Venice to the Great Wall of China, or from a sunken ship to the Tibetian foothills. (Sorry if I spelled that wrong). I really enjoyed this game and the FMV sequences between levels are great! If you are an old fan of the Tomb Raider series or a newcomer to the world of Lara Croft, you should buy this game! NOT rent, BUY!
