Lags too much to useAug 23, 2010
I am a Rock Band fanatic. I play on Roland V-Drums, I use the expensive Logitech guitar, and I even own the RB stage kit! I have more peripherals than anyone really should. I have Rock Band Night at the house with friends once every couple months at a minimum. When my RB mic went on the fritz, I looked for a wireless alternative. I have always been a fan of Logitech products and was pretty excited to see this mic. The mic looks good and feels great. Obviously another quality Logitech product.

The problem is that the microphone does have a small amount of lag. Unfortunately when playing a rhythm game, that small amount makes a world of difference. It's incredibly frustrating when trying to sing on X or Hard vocals and deal with the lag - you have to sing the notes early. Of course whether you sing early or on time, it still sounds terrible because it's like an echo in the room when the sound comes out of the speakers.

Even if you don't play on hard or X, inexperienced singers have a terrible problem even on easy or medium. People keep failing out because it just doesn't register close enough. I would definitely not recommend this microphone to any Rock Band players. It's a shame because the mic does look and feel excellent.

I was getting tired of the dog nearly taking out my Wii with the corded microphone that came with Rockband so I replaced it with this. It was beyond easy to set up...It was virtually painless. Just plug the USB in and put the batteries in the microphone and it automatically synced. I tried it out and works even better than the Rockband one, it cuts out the "tapping" noises when you have to use it as a cowbell/tambourine during game play. The only drawback is that it's not rechargable. Otherwise, very impressed!

I consider myself a fairly proficient audio enthusiast. I spend alot of money on home theater and recording studio gear, all of which is top of the line. I also am an avid Rockband player. I have a pretty precise ear that comes from many hours of singing, playing instruments and tweaking sound in my studio with professional quality equipment. I realize that Rockband is a game and as such I have lower expectations.

When I purchased the Logitech wireless microphone I wanted a simple upgrade to the quality and portability of the stock Rockband microphone. What I received was an inferior piece of garbage.

I did a direct comparison using the Logitech mic and the stock Rockband mic. My methods were sound, I sang the same song with each microphone and I rebooted the console between switching the mics to make sure there were no software issues induced by switching the mics. I also attempted to compensate for the individual mic sensitivity by adjusting the level of the game's settings for mic volume and sensitivity.

Through this testing I found that the Logitech has significantly more lag between inputting sound and hearing output. The lag was so significant that it renders the unit completely unusable for singing in Rockband. I estimate that the lag increase over the stock mic was about 300 ms. This is not acceptable. In addition to the lag, I the mic sounded thinner, harsher and more distorted than the already poor sounding stock microphone.

The only positive was that the device was easy to set up and was indeed wireless. However, I have a wireless stapler that performs as a microphone much better than this Logitech device.

Logitech did a fantastic job with this microphone and it works flawlessly on my ps3. The base seems to hold the microphone and act like the wireless receiver. The microphone also twists open so you can insert the double A batteries. So far battery life has been great, there has been no connection issues and I think it works better then the the regular wired microphone. This is a must for anyone who wants a truly wireless setup

sounds weird, wouldnt syncJun 17, 2010
(used only with rock band 2 on xbox 360)

My rock band factory mic broke so I thought this was a good upgrade option. However, this is what I found:

- Wouldnt sync properly to the song--there was always a slight delay no matter what i did
- had a tinny, "hollow" sound. noticably worse that the factory mic
- overly sensitive and would capture too many ambient sounds
- minor point: even though the mic itself is wireless, you still need to plug in a usb "base station" to the xbox, and then the mic can't recharge in the base station--minor, but would have been a nice design feature
- while i'm not a great singer myself, some of my friends are rather outstanding. Even when singing songs they usually nail a 100% on at expert, they'd maybe hit 90% and sound awful.

it may have been a defect since there seem to be a lot of positive reviews now, but I am glad I returned it and happy enough that this came out and put so many used wired mics back on the market for under $10 :)
