4Great over all game!!!Aug 16, 2006
Some great factors of this game I enjoyed:

1) Commentary done by Kruke and Kuipe, of the Bay Area SF Giants commentating team. This is a big plus for me, as I live here in San Francisco, and enjoy hearing familiar voices while I play.

2) Extensive minor league coverage. I love how you can play as a minor leaguer, and the teams, in season mode, show together, so you can sim/play all the games scheduled for play, including, MLB, and double and triple A, each and every seasonal day.

3) Great EA gameplay; EA is known for its great gameplay, in every Sports title they produce. This game has it.

Other than that, that is about it. I thought the graphics were lagging, at best. I notice the characters look "flat" on my television monitor. Anyone else notice this? I have around 6 baseball games on the current gen systems, and this game has the flattest characters of all my games.

I would recommend this game, at the current low price. It will never sell above $20 now, but I wouldn't pay that high of a price. It is certainly worth $10 or less.

Great job EA!

3Fun, but completely unrealisticJul 17, 2005
First off, I love this game and play it a lot. It's a lot of fun. If all you're concerned about is having fun, this game works for you and is cheap. However, this game is so unrealistic it's insane.
First problem is the hitting glitch. Left-handed hitters only hit about 50% as well as righties. Net result? My entire lineup is righties, because lefties just get out. Making half the hitters in baseball(more than half, acutally, because switch hitters will hit lefty the majority of the time) useless is REALLY annoying. When Todd Helton, David Ortiz, and Carlos Delgado have combined for 3 HRs and you're 20 games in, you got a situation to look at.
Second big unrealistic component is the trades. I put together a godly lineup that would make even Steinbrenner cry. Starting with the Red Sox roster, I got a batting order of 1. Orlando Cabrera 2. Nomar Garciaparra 3. Alex Rodriguez 4. Manny Ramirez 5. Magglio Ordonez 6. Vernon Wells 7. Todd Helton (even with the lefty glitch he's good because he hits like .320) 8. David Ross 9. Jose Reyes. O yeah my pitching staff was 1. Barry Zito 2. Pedro Martinez 3. Roy Halladay 4. Mark Prior 5. Josh Beckett, with Billy Wagner as the closer. Now assembling a lineup that schools the MLB heroes team is fun, it's also never going to happen in real life.
Next is the disparity between pitching and hitting. Pitching is just so much easier. To get the game going at an even rate, I have to set it to pro when i hit and mvp when i pitch. Hitting and Pitching should be more evenly balanced.
In the field, the CPU is insane. It makes the diving, shoestring, whatever catches you see on ESPN highlight reels about 10 times a game. And that leads to my next point. The announcers are just annoying. I turned them off a while ago.
The game definitely has its weak areas. However, overall it's a fun game and i recommend getting it if you're not really intersted in simulating real baseball

1Don't waist your time or moneyMar 06, 2005
The graphics are great. I'll give it that. But if you like to play a game where the opposing team gets an inside the park home run every time they hit a gapper then this game is for you. If a ball is hit into the gap the computer will score but you will most likely only get a double if you're lucky. I've been held to a single with a gapper and a really fast player.

The opposing team hits almost everything you can throw at them. Even the computer's pitchers get a hit at least once a game even if you make a great pitch. It doesn't matter if it's in a hot zone or a cold zone. If you pitch it, they will hit it.

Don't waist your money on this game.

5The most smooth game everDec 09, 2004
Okay first lets start with good things. MVP baseball 2004 is awesome because it has incredible graphics perfect stats for all players and it has great but hard plays to make. One thing i dont understand it how does the com. make all these great plays and I make my players 50 more speed and they still are faster. That is the only thing that I disagree about this game.
Sincerely, Frank

4A MUST OWN BASEBALL GAME FOR THE AVID FANOct 01, 2004
I recently bought an xbox and I am a believer that if you love sports then you must have baseball. I researched 5 baseball games before I bought this one.

It took me several weeks to get used to it. You will need to do some tweaking to get the realistic play you are looking for and you can do that through options. If you are a Bonds fan then you will find out that because Bonds refused to allow his likeness in any way that he has been renamed as Jon Dowd. That is ok becuase you can edit that player and make him into Bonds, pretty cool. As I was saying before you will need to tweak the game settings a little. I was playing it straight up in the dynasty made and had the settings as balanced across the board. My pitchers couldn't hit the zone and the game was scoring like 20 runs a game. After I tweaked the game play settings I am playing alot of 1 and 3 run games. It is really dynamic and fun as well as realistic. At first I hated this game and had I wrote a review after the first week I wouldn't have anything positive to say. Now that I have taken the time to learn it and adjust the settings it is ONE HELL OF A BASEBALL GAME. I love baseball and this is a must own game for your library. Take care and enjoy. Save yourself some money and buy it second hand if you can.
